In The Pink
A lily from my garden . Painted on Saunders Waterford Not paper, 300gm. I use Daler Rowney Artist Watercolour Paints I always stretch my paper and staple it to a wooden frame. This picture is 14" x 18". This makes it as tight as a drum when dry and also very light. I can turn my painting around as I work on each section. I always paint wet into wet , one petal at a time , priming each shape so I can control where the paint goes. I glaze each shape until I am satisfied with its tone. only then do I add any detail . I reserve the white paper by painting around the area . I dont add white paint of any sort. My background is completed one section at a time, mixing maybe three colours wet into wet, usually one colour from the main subject .
