Aha, another hater of green, eh..... Well, you triumphed over your dislike/anxiety: we all have trouble with greens, and they don't always go to plan, either... there are so many ways to mix greens, though, that it's worth keeping the ready-made ones, with the possible exception of Viridian or Pthalo Green, and maybe Terre Verte, in the tubes and mixing them instead; I won't bore you with my own recipes because I'm sure you have your own. I think the greens work well in this, much helped by the very useful break in them in the foreground.

Thanks Robert. I do find it very difficult mixing greens. I lose patience, especially when I haven't mixed enough and have to re-mix and match the same tone. The greens in other artist's landscapes always seem so effortless and natural. The problem, i find, with Scottish light, is that it appears to drain the vibrancy from colours in the landscape, expecially green. So I tend to over-compensate, which means that I sometimes don't achieve the tones I see in front of me.

Oil on panel. Size - 20ins x 16ins. Arrrrrrgh...Scottish landscapes are so difficult! Green, green everywhere! This scene is close to where I currently live. It was the sky that really grabbed my attention, but the trees and fields that drained my patience. Ah well...onwards and upwards!
