Gorgeous painting Sarah. You captured his smile and even though we can't see it, I can just see his tail wagging. Beautiful doggie.

Ah thank you all for such lovely comments. I was a little concerned that I'd gone overboard with the detail, which can sometimes distract but now I feel happier with it.
