You have achieved painting a lovely, cute dog portrait Ruth. You may have done this already but regarding the fur, I find it easier to layer on a dark colour on the coat first then to carefully observe where the darks and lights are then applying the lights on top of the the dark layer. Obviously there are a huge range of tones from light, medium, dark, very dark etc., so it’s a question of careful observation. Hope I don’t sound too condescending Ruth.

I think you've done a good job and the expression is great. I would agree with Carole and I would also suggest you use smaller brushes in some places to achieve a finer look. Hope that helps
