All will make excellent jigsaws

Totally agree, Heather!

Looks like you are on a roll with these Ronald, very good

Excellent set of pictures Ronald.

You've been busy, Ronald! I had a friend - sadly, she died last year - who had a very large table on which you'd always find a part-completed jigsaw: she'd have loved these. Unlike my mother, whose attention span was perhaps a little short - she'd start them, get bored, and pass them on to my father. And I had a gorgeous one, made by Chad Valley, with wooden, printed blocks of a scene from our civil war. Jigsaws, and Patience - keeping the British occupied for ... how long? When was the first one made? You'd know, if anyone would.

Brilliant wild life Ronald.

Thank you all for your kind comments. Robert, to answer your question, Englishman John Spilsbury, a London engraver and mapmaker, invented the jigsaw puzzle in 1767. The first jigsaw puzzle was a map of the world. Spilsbury attached a map to a piece of wood and then cut out each country. Teachers used Spilsbury's puzzles to teach geography. Students learned their geography lessons by putting the world maps back together.
