Incredible use of water colour and pastel - love it

I have just discovered your brilliant pastel paintings, by going on to the section featuring pastels. They are just beautiful. I love the colours and the different ways you have used the pastels. I use pastels sometimes and you have inspired me to keep trying. I would like to see an article by you in The Artist, please.

Thankyou Fiona for your kind words. Underpainting is key, do a loose tonal underpainting and using a bristle brush, dab alcohol on it and brush it around. You can use water to do the same but it takes longer to dry. Try using a sanded paper as it holds more pastel and you can layer a painting without it becoming clogged. Stick to small sketches to start of with and avoid lots of detail.
