Preparatory studies come in all shapes and forms, ranging from cursory doodles to full-blown versions of what was to follow..classical painters were thorough in working out exactly what they wanted to to depict, probably for the benefit of the apprentices, and I find it essential as a way, not just in problem solving but also in becoming familiar with design elements..................................anyone else nodding off?
