The Dead Tree

The Dead Tree

Normally, I don't care a lot for triptychs but this one actually does flow seamlessly from one canvas to another, which so many fail quite to do. Mind you, I'd have been just as impressed had this been on a long rectangular single canvas. The light in the sky, especially at the horizon and at top left, is well done, my only problem with it is that there is a tonal/colour shift between the greens in the middle canvas and the one to the right which could well be explained by the cloud above, but where that shift actually happens we don't see it. However, I split hairs .... it's an effective piece of work, and I like the way you've not gone overboard with the branches and twigs on your dead tree but have depicted it starkly, which contributes so much to the effectiveness of the image as a whole.

Love this picture. I like the greens you have used and the way you have done the light on the fore ground.

Thank you for your constructive comment, Robert. I agree about the colour shift and have checked against the original and it does not seem so marked. Maybe it happened at the photo stage! See also the triptych in my other portfolio - "Downland III" which I have recently sold . . .so more cash for art materials! Keep painting!

... I really like this as well. Although for some reason I feel the middle one is less successful than the first and last...probably down to the points Robert makes.

This triptych is only my second attempt at this style of presentation. I have used three 7" x 5" canvasses and painted them in acrylic.
