I love charcoal, Rebecca, but have never come across Nitram. Is it at all like my beloved soft willow sticks ? I like your birdie

Nitram is the best ever charcoal, for me anyway :-) i did not like charcoal at all, the willow for me, is bad, it is too soft and gives off a lot of dust that aggravates my allergies, but i sometimes may add a little of it to darken the sky (for extra depth) along with Nitram, but now i am used to Nitram, i use that all the time, and i am just getting into subjects from books, like butterflies :-) The Nitram charcoal come in sticks but not as thin as the willow sticks, think of a fire match, (square and long) the nitram charcoal has slightly more width, and is comes in 3 grades, HB is one of the grades. Then H,and B i think, B being the blackest. Now i have found out that it sticks much better to smooth paper, and can be fixed with water, i am keeping it always :-p I am pleased you like my sketchy birdie :-)

Very lively and chirpy, Rebecca!

This is a sketchy bird on a tree branch. The charcoal is Nitram. I did not use charcoal at all really, until i found Nitram, now i am getting into it a lot more now. Fixed with water, no need for dangerous spray fixatives anymore :-)
