The white-collared blackbird (Turdus albocinctus) is a species of bird in the Turdidae family. It is found in the Indian subcontinent, ranging across Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Myanmar, Nepal and Pakistan. Its natural habitats are subtropical or tropical moist montane forests and subtropical or tropical high-altitude shrubland. 26 - 28cm. Broad white collar from nape and upper mantle to throat and breast. Black plumage, Yellow bill, eye-ring and legs. Females are brown with a duller pastel-grey collar and weakly streaked on throat. Juveniles have no pale collar, dark upperparts with pale streaks and spots on wing-coverts and a buffy brow and buffy underparts with heavy spots on breast. Found in the Himalayas from northern India east to Nepal, Bhutan and south China (Tibet and Sichuan). In winter also in northeast India. Moist montanes and high-altitude shrubland. Occurs from 2100 - 4000m in the Himalayas, in winter below 3000m, down to 250m. A shy and solitary species. Feeds on invertebrates and insects, takes also fruit, drupes and berries. Forages on the ground and in trees, in winter commonly in flocks with other thrushes. Breeding season from March to July. The nest is a compact cup placed 1-3m above the ground in a tree, rarely on or near the ground. Lays 3 - 4 eggs. A partial migrant, making seasonal vertical movements. [INFO: BIRD FORUM]
