Hume's hawk-owl (Ninox obscura) is a species of owl in the family Strigidae. It is endemic to the Andaman Islands. It differs from other hawk owl with its reduced white spot above bill , plain dark brown uppersides and underparts , barred, not plain, undertail-coverts . unbarred undertail . Its natural habitats are subtropical or tropical moist lowland forests and subtropical or tropical mangrove forests. It is becoming rare due tohabitat loss. 26–30 cm. Medium-sized boobook, dark chocolate-brown on most of plumage, with a slightly paler, rufous-brown belly, prominent white bands on vent. Song a repeated, two-syllabled “wooo-oop, wooo-oop, wooo-oop”, the second note higher . Inhabits lowland forest, forest edge, borders of rubber plantations and areas near human habitat.
