PAKHI DEKHUN PAKHI CHINUN # 449 (Observe the Bird and recognize).SCARLET FINCH..[From a Photograph of MR. BISWAPRIYA RAHUT] ... WATERCOLOUR ...A4...2014... The scarlet finch (Carpodacus sipahi) is a species of finch in the Fringillidae family. It is found in the Himalayas from central Nepal eastwards to Vietnam and is found spottily in the adjacent hills of Northeast India and Southeast Asia as far south as Thailand. It is resident in the Himalayas, but many birds winter to the immediate south. Its natural habitat is temperate forests. This species has been found by some authorities genetically separate from "Carpodacus" finches and forms a phylogenetic group with Carpodacus erythrinus. Many authorities have yet to recognize the genus however. 18–19 cm; 38–42·5 g. Medium-sized to large, large-billed and thickset finch with short wings and tail. Male has entire head, upperparts and underparts bright scarlet. Song a clear and liquid, upslurred "par-ree-reeeeeee". Call a loud "too-eee", "pleeau" or "kwee-i. Variety of seeds, buds, berries, and occasionally small insects liked to eat.
