Mule Gimmer Lambs

Mule Gimmer Lambs

Love the curious sheep all staring directly at us. Not sure everyone will know what a gimmer lamb is (one born last year and not yet been mated or had a lamb) but it's a great farming word, isn't it!

Thanks for the comment Thea, you are well informed regarding the rather gutteral sounding 'Gimmer'.
The Mule is an interesting breed.I'm from the Yorkshire Dales and more used to seeing black faced sheep. The Mule is cross-bred: Blue Faced Leicester Ram and Swaledale Ewe; result lovely black ears, mottled b & w face, almost B.Sienna coloured fleece and surprisingly stout legs all features which make them a good subject for water colour, oh and the the ewes commonly produce twins and often triplets which flock in large groups, hence the picture.
