I remember this place well from when I lived there 25 years ago. I was a regular visitor - as was actor Oliver Reed. It looks somewhat cleaner than I remember it! Excellent painting.

Thank you Tony for your comments, I knew Oliver Reed lived in Guernsey but I did not know that he was a regular visitor of the Swan!! Thank you for letting me know that.

In fact Oliver lived in the Old Government House Hotel, where I worked as a chef. He only ever ate grilled dover sole. Every day, twice a day. His anticts at the swan were often embarresing, though I never saw him violent. I'm afraid the booze turned what was a charming and talented man into a buffoon. Very sad. But that doesn't distract from what is a very charming painting. Indeed you have brought back some happy memories for me!

I just discovered your beautiful gallery, Petra. This is really a painting with a story. I like to know some stories about somebody living there, being there. This is very interesting. Great painting too!

Hi Christophe. Thank you for your comment I live in Guernsey and I've been to your pub, nice food! I painted The Swan as I think it has a lot of character and charm, one of the most beautiful pubs in the island. The painting is currently on show at the Bon Port Hotel. Petra
