A sad and heroic image. Wonderful sense of exhaustian, isolation and fear conveyed in this powerful painting. Definitely an image for today.

Tugged at my heart strings so much, our brave men.

Thank you for the comments, with this one I really wanted to show the fear, the loneliness, the futility of it all, including the injuries and deaths surrounding the soldier. I purposely placed his face in deep shadow as I didn't want any kind of recognisable face, he's the unknown soldier representing all soldiers in combat irrespective of nationality.

Three fabulous, strong, well painted images here. You've made me think this morning how lucky I am and how stupid to be stressing about unimportant things when others are experiencing wars. You've conveyed your message well. I feel great sympathy and also admiration for this soldier. Very well done.

Thank you Louise, the main intention with this series was to provoke thought and remembrance for all who have been injured or lost their lives protecting others whilst fighting in a far off country away from loved ones and friends whilst living in tents

They are all great paintings and you have certainly achieved your aim in this one. It's such a needless war.

Thanks for the comment Joy

Those three paintings are so dramatic and yet so beautifully painted. A real tribute to those brave men!!

Thank you for the comment Mia

I think this is my favourite of yours so far. You feel like putting your arms around him. I have a question that maybe you could answer for me. Do you use the acylics quite thinly diluted, almost wash like in places to suggest dust or details of stone etc? do you use the gel medium much? Thank you.

oh Lord, these are too real, my son is out there now.

Thanks for the comments. Lou, I used an over-wash on these for the dust.
