Acrylic and ink pen painting on heavyweight watercolour paper the painting represents John Ross of Scottish decent who became the Cherokee nations chief from 1827 until his death in 1866 . He fought for his people all his life and walked with them on the trail of tears where over 4,000, possibly more than 8,000 of his people died including his wife on the journey to a new reservation displaced when gold was found on their ancestral lands .
