I can feel the cold - one for memory lane

Fascinating, it's good to get these memories down in such a personal way.

Thanks Heather and Lewis for your comments it much appreciated Iv also been impressed with both of your work styles and Lewis you are in a league of your own brilliant.

This brought back so many memories, Peter. I remember trying to warm my hands around a lit match in winter. And orange squash in milk bottles with an orange cap.

Thank you Bob I’m glad you remembered doing the early morning milk deliveries , I don’t think anyone has recorded this for posterity so I thought it would bring a smile to all the milk loons who had experienced hanging on to the back of the lorry and jumping off at speed hoping that your legs could run fast enough when your foot hit the road .[in fact hit the road running ] We were all super fit lads then as we ran from the start of the round till the finish . I remember trading a half pint of milk for some cookies [Aberdeen rolls ] from the bakers delivery boy and that was our breakfast before we rushed to school happy days . Thanks again for your comments .

Delivering milk in the nineteen sixties in Peterhead. Jumping off the back step of the moving lorry with hand crates in both hands. This we did in all weathers, 364 days a year. Double delivery on Hogmany (Scottish New Year’s Eve. I did this from the age of 12 to 16, starting at 5.30am and finishing just before school . Today this method of working would certainly be a health and safety nightmare although it was dangerous I can’t remember anyone being hurt .
