p.s May I ask if you work from sketches or are these plain-air ? And more importantly how long from start to finish of the completed painting over how many sessions. ? I ask as a potential convert !

Dear Ed, thank you for your kind comment. I do work plain-air, as in Sketch in the Back Field, but mostly form drawings in the studio. As for acrylic I know what you mean, you have to work with them, they cant be pushed around like oil. I work with very thin washes, layer on layer allowing the colours to come through from underneath. I used to work mainly in pastels and I think this layering and justapositioning of colour stems from then. You have to be prepared for a colour change on drying and the underneath colours will always have an effect, the more so as it drys. I love this and you do get used to it, allowing you to work with it.

Dear Ed, sorry forgot to say how long. 4 or 5 sessions, 2 to 4 hours each. Can be less, but it can be longer. I try not to be too fussy but I am constantly putting another layer of colour on quite often ending up where I started. I am sure you have been there!

Paul, Many thanks for that... I'll have to give them a go. I do more portraits than landscapes and oils favour the former... but I should not let that stop me. I'll only post them if they work ! !
