watercolour pencils

Well I know you can use them wet or dry :)). This is brilliant first attempt Peter. I like to use the pencils over wet paper for trees and branches as it gives a nice soft mark. Also grating the pencil on sandpaper over a wet piece gives a good texture. Have you tried Inktense pencils? These are permanent when dry so you can wash over them.

Peter you might find the a bit cheaper online, Jackson's Art maybe. I use intense over watercolours sometimes, gives good positive depth and colour.

Mind you, you seem to have achieved a radiance with your watercolour pencils on this.
