Excellent first attempt at rendering a person in watercolour, it's fascinating isn't it how everyone attempts to paint people, and that of course is the joy of this website it enables us to compare and learn a little from everyone's different take on this, the last comment I left was on Lesley's latest knockout work of a boat on water, and to immediately see this lovely work of yours in a different medium and different setting has brightened up my snow laden morning immeasurably, especially as I am just about to set off to pick up my adult son who has no car at the moment only a push bike and is looking on at couple inches of the white stuff, our snow here isn't actually settling it is too wet underneath it, much rather be looking on on your lovely scene here Pamela!

oh Ros P (is it Pam?) thanks so much for your kind comments, it pleases meto know that it lifted you out of this miserable morning for just a little while :D

Great first try Pamela, I have never attempted figures before in such close detail, to be honest I suppose I'm probably afraid of the outcome. Glad you have cheered Ros up, no snow hear yet, but i shouldn't speak too soon. it's alway great to take a break from painting to look at the gallery, glad I didn't miss this one.

Thank you Peter very much, and I, too, was trepidatious (if there is such a word) about trying it, but.... nothing ventured eh? So glad you liked it

Hi Pamela, it's me again, with an update on the crazy snow situation, as I said earlier I was going out in car to pick my adult son up 'cos of the snow where he was and him only having a pushbike, luckily my husband arrived home just in time and came with me, as soon as I had to leave main road and start driving up country lanes problems started! Snow was building up almost straight away, we had to drive up a hill, at the top of which was a quad bike and a farmer and his daughter with spades trying to dig out tracks for cars, he ended up having to drive our car up the worst of the hill for us, after that it was hit and miss bits of road ok, bits we almost ended up sideways on, but with husband driving we made it, then on way back he overdid it slightly and we overshot a snow covered corner and came to rest in a wire fence which was only thing stopping us from going down a drop! Further along the country road at crest of a hill a small car with 2 women in was sideways on, so we left our car at top of hill with engine running and went to help them, turned back to our car only to find the engine vibration had caused our car to slide part way down the hill on the snow and thankfully gently come to rest against a hedge all by itself! We finally made it home, no settled snow here although it has snowed mot of day but only lightly, just thought I would give you an update on our crazy trip out in the car today, my sister-in-law is staying with friends on mow cop near stoke and they had 8 inches of snow by lunchtime!

Great painting Pamela. I am also pleased that no one was in the car as it slid down the hill Ros! When it snows here, we just walk. If it's too far, we don't bother! It's cold enough here and I can feel the snow clouds looming now. This painting is the perfect antithesis.

thank you Gudrun !! And Ros !!! what a journey, frightening how quickly situations can change, I don't know where you are, but... here in Southport it snowed all morning, but it was wet, and melted. It has now started to snow again, and I really hope it doesn't stick. I'm glad we moved from Anglesey two years ago, as N Wales seems to have had a bad dose of it, and the A55 is (or was) blocked in places. I'm so glad you made it home safely - you can stay there now and recover with a hot toddy - or hot chocolate, whichever takes your fancy - or BOTH !! :D

I thinkj it's lovely [ no need to tell it's a first go ! ] it looks just perfect.

image of this little boy playing engrossed by himself just appealed to me. It was my first attempt at painting a person, but enjoyed trying to get the shadows just right - I hope I suceeded
