Lovely loose image - very atmostpheric.

This is absolutely beautiful - painting as I most appreciate it, muted tones, a variety of soft greys, atmosphere by the ton, sharp calligraphic elements..... couldn't be better, for me.

I agree with Robert ,absolutely spot on, love it!

Hello Jane.Thank you for your comments. As in so many of these atmospheric style paintings it is necessary to first lay down an overall toning suitable to the feel of the of the occasion,in this case a sort of toned grey which I left slightly warm. The rest of the painting then becomes purely tonal and normally I like to put in the background detail(in this case a sort of mid grey)working always from the top down). The figures in the mid distance were entered useing a soft charcoal pencil and then overlaid with a little grey(you have to find some sharpe edges of pastel to suite). The foreground was finished by entering the two figures on the right and and the lamp post in the centre all a little stronger to add depth but as tonally correct as possible. Dont know whether the above has helped at all as I seem to find painting a lot easier than writing Regards Keith Agar.
