Fabuloso! It's just your take on a subject, Helen, very individual.

Love all the different colours you’ve used. Great portrait.

Lovely work. I like the vivid use of colour.

Wonderful portrait with fantastic tonal values Helen.

Great portrait Helen, brilliant lighting and colours.

My mother (also paints) asked me once how I 'see' so many colours, so I tried to explain that I use whatever colour I want and then just light/dark. (I'm really not very good at describing this or that colour!)... so a few weeks later, she rang and said she'd tried out my 'method' on one of her paintings..., 'It looks good from a distance', she commented, 'in another room with the door closed'...!

I painted this in 2014 and it was my first portrait painting. I painted this as an entry into Sheffield's 'Art in the Gardens' portrait competition. Each year they provide the subject, and you choose a photo from their selection to work from (taken by a professional photographer). 50cm square, acrylic on box canvas
