Dying of the light- Aldeburgh beach

Dying of the light- Aldeburgh beach

err? Aldeburgh faces East into the rising sun & the North Sea...so the sun sets in the West behind the buildings to the right of your picture...so the sun as you have shown is the mid-day sun from the South...oh the beach is strictly cobbles & shingle....none the less a good painting.

Well Phil, I think it's called artistic licence. My paintings are meant to be impressionistic. I wanted the mood to be of the afternoon light coming in over the sand (so didn't paint in every single cobble stone and shingle), hitting the boat and that's what I hope I've created. If I'd wanted to paint realistically I might just as well have posted the photo of this scene. Glad you think it's a good painting nonetheless...LOL! Kirstie...thank you for your kind comments..

I like the impressionistic work here, in the Aldeburgh paintings. Never been there, though our town also faces the North Sea. I agree with utilizing light to enhance the scene. Perhaps I should try it here since the sun has gone in! Best wishes. J.

Thank you for your kind words James. Capturing light in a watercolour is the essence for me and I hope that's what I've achieved here even if the original subject didn't quite look like this..

I can't believe that someone is concerned about technicalities when faced with such a gorgeous and artistic painting. This is absolutely stunning - keep doing what you do and move the sun wherever you want!!

Thank you Thea

Very well done, I love your colours.

Thanks again, Retha.
