I thought this was a watercolour and would love to be able to do this with acyrlics . Love the quirkiness and colour of birthday girl and can see the spanish heat in your still life which I also find difffucut to do,the reflections always turn to mud on me. Gallery is so busy these days it is easy to miss paintings, there is an "invitation to view" section on the forum also to direct users to your gallery.

Thanks Norah. I also have trouble with watercolour turning to mud! Acrylics are so much easier aren't they? Any mistakes and you just paint over! I have only just completed 'Birthday girl' as a commision after two people were fighting over a similar mixed-media that I sold back in December. Recent exhibitions have shown that mixed-media is definitely what the people want just now.

I have to agree with you about the mud with watercolours!!i like the freedom to change for the better as you go with acrylics ,my paintings often change!! Your work is great!!

Interesting exchange on the merits of acrylic over watercolour - did you use white in this? If you did, I can't tell - it does look very like a watercolour, yet with a softer focus. Hope you're wrong about people wanting mixed media, as I'm getting back into oil painting!

Thank you Linda, and thank you again Robert for your advice which enabled me to get these paintings on-line. I did use white, especially in the clouds which involved a lot of finger painting! I always end up peeling paint off my fingers at the end of a picture as I do quite a bit of rubbing in. With regard to 'what people want', it's not always what you want to do is it? So I'm just glad that I don't have to sell to survive, otherwise I'd be stuck in a rut and miserable which is not what it's all about, is it!

Well painted Michael. I must disagree with you when you say that "Mixed media " is what people seem to want though. Sales of Watercolours in our Gallery outsell other mediums by a considerable degree, its not the "medium" that sells the painting, its the quality, and looking at your paintings I don,t think that you should have any trouble selling your work. Once again, well done.

Thanks Bill, very much appreciated.

This is a small inlet off the river Plym and the tide was very high, lapping the towpath.
