Leicestershire villages, Shawell

Another super village scene Michael, the only thing that I could suggest, is a small figure just turning the corner of the road would work well.

You are so good at these village scenes, Michael. They all look idyllic places to live and you are probably putting all the house prices up in the country villages as when people see how pretty it is they will all be flocking there!

Yes good point Stephen, would break up that big white wall a little, Nice study though.

Lovely village scene Michael! I was staring at it and thought that the left hand side is a bit empty and then read Stephen's comment and your answer, so everything is in order. Please, post it again if you add something, it would be great to see it.

Completely up to you what you do Michael (obviously!) but I like this as it is - a lot of people like to add figures; I often do myself; but there's a lot to be said for not doing so, as well. This is a clean, pure watercolour, not fussed over or fiddled (although of course I can see the work in it), and there's a lot of virtue in its basic simplicity. You don't need me to tell you how easy it is to over-work these things, and personally, I think you've got what you were after as it stands.

Thanks Fiona and Robert. . Having looked at the original again I am now thinking, Robert, that your words of wisdom are right - can't see much point in playing around with the scene other than a few understated shadows on the left hand bush.

I also think that a signature is an important part of the composition. So, to me, that would be enough to complete the left hand side. If you add figures in a finished painting I am afraid they could look artificial. I agree nevertheless with the shadows under the left hand bush. :) Mia
