Nice trees Michael and esp. the tree shadow on the white gable. I like the greens of the tree in front of the white gable. Also the browns of the right hand tree lovely. Only personal but I find the bright green of the grass and big central tree a big bright and also the red figure. Both these strong hues catch my attention so my eyes wander. I am sure others will take the opposite view. Such is art!

As Alan guessed opinions will differ! I love all the different shaded of green! Very pleasing on the eye and beautifully painted. If I am allowed one small criticism - perhaps the shadow of the house should extend a bit farther? unless of course the sun is extremely high.

You certainly have some very attractive villages in your area Michael and you have done Laughton 'proud' with this delightful little watercolour. Funnily enough I like the varied colour of the large tree, with just a hint of autumnal tints to come and I always think a splash of red brings life to a scene. As Alan wisely says though, everyone has a different view of art, which makes it all the more fascinating.

This is a lovely scene Michael, works for me, tones of colours are always potentially difficult, and probably none more so than when using green, maybe the shadow of the cottage could have extended forward a bit more, but all in all it is still a lovely view of the village

hi this is a very pleasant scene i love the colours and light and shadows xx

Another lovely painting and I agree with Stephen you certainly have some attractive places in your area.

many thanks to you all for commenting - much appreciated. I was happy with the colouring of the foliage which adds a bit sparkle to the painting - However for balance I might crop it at the top just a little when it comes to framing. The prominent tree makes it a tad top heavy. As for the shadows I must agree that they could be extended a bit to bring it all together.

Nice work Michael, love seeing glimpses of real places and the figures 'make' the painting for me.

Another winner Michael :)

A particularly pretty cottage, lovely view.

I hesitate to criticise your work, Michael, but ..... I think the large tree might cast a bit more shadow than it does, and the dark marks on the on the right, particularly on the grass could be somewhat lighter since the light is coming from the left. Otherwise, a great picture...as usual!

Thanks D,S,L and L Lionel - agree with you about the tree hence my comment above to strengthen the shadows. However I am happy with the tones on the grass - I used a bit of artistic licence as I felt they were needed to add a bit of weight to the right hand side and balance the painting.

Whatever you paint Michael it always jumps out at me from the thumbnail page. There may be one or two points as highlighted above but I don't see them, it is bright, crisp and reminds me of summer!

Clean and fresh colours and washes as always Michael. A typical English village scene beautifully captured in watercolour.

Thanks Fiona and Val - off to try some more flowers this morning .

Strangely enough, when I checked my reference material, the shadows are accurately reflected in the painting (apart from the fact that I have not blocked them in squarely but have 'feathered' them across the road which looks so much better) - even the tree - but I still agree it would help if they were all extended across the road. Other than this I am happy with the painting as it is.
