Wow, you are right I didnt think it was yours! This is fab, great colours, love the seed heads too, love it!

Quite right Micahael I didn't think it was one of yours. I always skim the gallery page and this jumped out at me. So looked further and I think it's a little gem. free , fresh and colourful. poppies pai ets like this are not in the least bit twee. .deserves a good frame.

Yep, you had me fooled too Michael, good for you to try something different and it has come out well. The three poppy heads stand out against the soft background.

Looking forward to seeing more like this one :) Very nice indeed :)

Thanks all - yes it will go in a frame and end up in an exhibition somewhere - I am just beginning to receive a number of entry forms for the new season - here we go again.

Excellent stuff Michael, perhaps the main poppies are a little tight against the superb, loose back ground, but keep at I'm sure it will come, still, what do I know, the closest I can get to a poppy is a dab of black in a splodge of red:-)

Wow Michael, something so very different for you but what a stunner! Love the highlights around the poppies and the seed heads are brilliant. You should explore this avenue further.

Cheers Helen, Mick and Fiona - yes I will be having a go at more like this when I find time but currently I am committed to a couple of commissions of village scenes - sorry Helen.

Michael = seriously, I think it's fantastic; OK, poppies are just about my favourite flowers, but you've caught the fold in the petals, the gradation of colour, the strength of that red, and still you've got the delicacy and the transience of these very delicate and all too-temporary flowers..... I certainly DON'T think it's twee in any way at all; actually, I don't even agree with Mick - with whom I normally do agree - about any tightness in the painting: it seems to me that the contrast between the more detailed flowers and the looser background is just about perfectly accomplished.

So different Michael but absolutely stunning. As Robert pointed out I love the detailed poppies against the much looser background, they balance each other perfectly. More please.

The way in which you've made individual blooms pop seemingly at random out of the context is very appealing. You've found a very clever way of reinventing the (often!) twee flower genre.

I like this Michael. Poppies are on my very long list of things to paint at some point and I have it my head to paint something soon that has a very crisp centre of attraction with a blurred background... so very encouraging to see this painting work out so well..

Thanks Robert, Val, Kim, and Paul - can't even think about trying further work in this style as really busy at present - anyway have to prepare for a session this afternoon so must rush off.

It's all been said. Stunning. As usual Robert has put words in my mouth and explained it better than me! Keep this on the backburner ....

Well done Michael!!!! Out of your comfort zone and such a lovely result. Very delicate with beautiful colours and good balance.

Missed this one Michael, love it

Well I bet you didn't think this was one of mine - bit out of the comfort zone but I do like to try different approaches and subjects so went to a workshop with Claire Warner and this is the result - my first thought was that poppies are a bit twee but having done it I might try doing a few more along these lines. What do you think of it?
