Sorry, that made me laugh, and I shouldn't have - I entirely understand what you mean! It's so easy to turn a portrait into a horror-show, but I think you've saved this one by further work. I realize you had no opportunity to paint Liz from life - it's much easier to make a portrait if you can, though... photographs flatten out those very subtleties of flesh and light which you really need to capture any kind of life or accuracy. Still - you've done a good job with the materials you had: I couldn't have done it, so congratulations on what you've achieved.

It made me laugh too Robert when I realised why it didn't look right. There's no point getting upset about things, especially when it's easy to put right.

I finally realised that the purple shadows on my portrait of Liz Taylor made her look like a corpse so I've redone her in warmer tones and hopefully she now looks alive!
