Excellent; full of life and character. Love the loose style.

Absolutely agree. I really like the brush strokes - you look like you enjoyed it you have a slight smile on your face, you have every right to be pleased. I love the loose style.

Lovely painting - great character in your face - I working up to doing one in 2009 - yours will be my inspiration

Thanks Carole, I'm flattered! May I suggest that you consider tones over colour and detail that is the key. Best regards Max

I do like this! I love all the colours you have used - the result is lively and eye catching. My first effort, done a while ago, ended up with me having a "guarded"look on my face - the result of staring in the mirror! I think the best way is to get someone to photograph you and then use the mirror as well. However you can't really beat working first-hand.

Hi Marjorie, I think self portraits are a great opportunity to study and see yourself properly 'warts and all' no question that trying new angles and methods is useful and great for your dfevelopment as a painter. I'm grateful for your comments,. thanks

Love seeing self portraits..this is great as it looks like it was done from life rather than a photo?

Hi annemarie thanks but this was painted from life using a mirror for help. Not a good idea to paint from photos and I never do!

My second self portrait and I really enjoyed it. I approached it in a much more loose style with acrylic on gesso hardboard which is a really good surface for moving paint around in differing thicknesses.
