I like the contrast of the fiery foreground and cool background. Has a mythical feel to it.

Thanks, Ibolya, Stephen, Sandra and Carole- Yes, pastels give good strong colours but are messy to use and difficult to store. I only used them because a lady was giving a workshop/demo at one of my art clubs.
