Thanks for your nice comments. The painting is quite small - 14" x 11". I did it as an experiment with a technique I hadn't used before - Painting a tonal picture in terre verte then adding washes of thin colour once I was satisfied I had got the tones right. My source was an old B&W photo from about 1912. I am quite pleased with the result and have started another, this time of my great great grandmother @ 1860. Watch this space.
