Always a challenge: drew a friend's late dog recently, (relatively recently), also from photos: terrified that I'd completely failed to capture him, since I know from experience how important animals are to people: thank goodness I succeeded - must have done, he paid me! This chap's a character all right - and my advice to anyone who's lost a pet is always to get another;doesn't cure the pain, but helps to absorb it somehow, as I'm sure your painting also helped to do.
