Super colours and details Cheryl, love the trees

Thanks so much Ros...appreciate the kind words!

Very nice Cheryl, I don't know about beginner, I think this works well. The amount of detail you include is up to your own taste, it just gets harder the more you add.

Colin Steed-Artist & Tutor. I like this one Cheryl. Yes you have added lots of detail but It seems to work. I would agree there is a little too much interest in the middle distance. This tends to make the picture look flat. Opening up this area would give more depth to the scene. The eye is lead up the path, behind the left-hand tree and out of picture. Had the path turned back in towards the centre this would also help the overall composition. As with all of us painters it's one big learning curve. Just keep painting and enjoy the learning process.

Cheryl Nielson sent in her version of Colin's project saying: ' As a semi-beginner, I found this project to be challenging but fun. I am working on composition and technique, as well as color and mixing. Looking at the piece finished, I don't think I simplified enough. If I did it again, I would probably leave out the plants in the middle behind the path. Coming from a quilting background, I tend to be very detail oriented. Not sure if it's a curse or a quality! I used Langton 140lb NOT paper, 14in.x 10in. White Night watercolours, Koh-I-Nor watercolour pencils, pen and ink. I really enjoy your magazine and have gotten much information and really great tips and tricks!'
