I like this Jim and I found your explanation of your compositional changes very interesting.

I also like this Jim, and the sky is fabulous.

Jim Gilligan sent in his painting based on the photograph presented by Jenny Keal in this month's painting project saying: 'The photograph was initially uninspiring. In particular the house lacked character and the background landscape was somewhat dull. In my painting I have tried to 'age' the house somewhat and position it beneath a gap in a squally April sky. By leaving roof and walls light and raising the distant ridge behind, the building becomes more noticeable and provides an interesting focal point. I am not sure my sky, which contains touches of ochre for effect and is very dark in places, works, but I was trying to leave an impression of a building under siege from the elements'.
