Highly accomplished copy - you've got (in both portraits) a real flavour of the original glazing technique. You've probably seen some criticism of this sort of painting on the Forum, particularly in relation to The Girl With the Pearl Ear-ring.. I should only worry about that if this was ALL you did. As an academic exercise, a means of recapturing or recreating old skills, on the other hand, I suspect this is fantastically interesting to do; and it has a value. It would have even more if you'd tell us a bit more about the method, the mediums, you employ (I know you've - was you, wasn't it? - posted before - and did you not do a step by step version of this portrait? Can't find it at the moment, unfortunately.)

Hi Robert , thankyou for commenting and thoughts - yes i did read the forum on the vermeer piece and found it very interesting as to what a perception of a copy could bring . I think doing a study of a well known painting adds many new found skills to an artists brush , i.e. understanding value , hue, croma , etc etc but most of all it brings the understanding of style thru the ages , some ppl may disagree but even the greats copied other great painters work to hone there skills . your right i have post here before but long ago when i was just starting out and have no idea what the logon was lol. Trying to unravel these studies is the fun part as in process and where to start , i have adopted a rossetti style using the canvas white to obtain luminous colours very thinly painted using a w&n medium and watercolour brushes . thank you for taking the time to comment and asking such good relevant questions
