Amazing expression ...it must have taken a long time to work out tones & complete illustration to your satisfaction. Do you do a series of sketches first on your work😕

Hi Les:yes I do a number of sketches,sometimes supplemented by photographs. I try to choose a key middle tone and then look for graduations on either side of the middle tone. I purposefully restrict myself to three or four tones and then look at how they can be juxtaposed to define form and where needed, shadow and highlight. It is then a matter (!)of adjusting the relative areas/ shapes of the chosen tones to convey the expression I want or am aiming for. It works some times but not always I'm afraid!😊
