A different approach with inks and done very well

A real nice loose ink painting, bold and vibrant.

You use some very interesting and varied brush strokes and marks Michael, especially on the far hills and sky. Smashing use of warmth in the foreground too. Have you ever read a book called the 'The band of brothers' by David Phillipson, its about boy seamen in the R.N. 1800 - 1956? It's a brilliant read, my father was in the R.N. and he would tell me such tales of his training at HMS Ganges.

Thanks Fiona. No, I hadn't heard of that book. I've just ordered it off eBay. Ganges was really tough. I didn't go there but I know plenty of lads who did. Your dad was clearly a dedicated person to get through the training there. I went to H.M.S. Raleigh at Plymouth for my initial trading. It was hard but not as hard as Ganges. Prior to that my Mam did everything for me. It does make you a better person. And you also become a babe magnet.

That's wonderful Michael, I hope you will enjoy reading it, please let me know what you think of it. It was a hard place for the boys, my father was only fifteen when he went to Ganges in 1936. You're right about the babe magnet too...lol I still have at least half a dozen photo sent to Dad from fine looking young ladies!!

I will let you know Fiona. My mam's family were all from the south of England and were navy people. My great great grandfather, from the Isle of Wight, was a Master at Arms in the R. N. and died in Chatham R. N. Hospital in 1838. So, I might find him in the book. I bet he was a babe magnet like me and your dad too lol.

Lovely perspective and composition Michael. Interesting information from your comments and Fiona's.

Thanks Carole and Gudrun.

Drawing ink. Happy memories of R.N.A.S. Culdrose (H.M.S. Seahawk) which is a short walk away. Loe Bar is the freshwater lake on the right. Like a lot of mystical places, and this really is, the legend goes that King Arthur's Excalibur was thrown into Loe Bar. It is not advised to swim off this beach as the tide is so strong and has claimed many lives. I can still feel the pull of the tide. Scary.
