This view of the Alpilles at St Remy de Provence shows one of the views that Vincent van Gogh painted. It is executed in charcoal and pastel. The picture was painted on the spot and then completed at home. My aim is to convey the sense of the surroundings, the protruberence of the Alpilles, the vegetation, the sunlight, and the warmth. I contend that olive trees are poorly represented in most paintings, and I have tried to make mine look more like olive trees.
