This is particularly beautiful Karl . One of my favourites .

A real feel of the plein air about this one - tell me, if you would: do you think you could achieve this level of control of light and colour if you'd taken a photograph, made a few sketches, and gone back to the studio, rather than painting out in the open? I ask because it's a long time since I've really been able to get out into the countryside and paint owing to the effects of arthritis, principally; and I feel I just can't get the same .... earthiness, I suppose, the same smell of the soil and grass translated into paint by the method I'm more or less forced to use.
