Mishka looks to be such a lovely dog and obviously doing well having reached 12. Excellent first attempt at this new medium. The face is especially good and I think the black background is absolutely the right choice to show up the gold of her coat. Long may she prosper.

This is a painting of my dog, taken from a photograph which is about five years old. He is 12 years old now and his coat is not quite so good looking! This is my first attempt at using oil paint - I used Windsor and Newton water-mixable oils over an acrylic under-painting. I loved the oil paint and it was so forgiving. I liked the fact that I could come back to it time and again to make minor changes. The bonus is that it doesn't give me a headache either - the brushes being cleaned so simply with soap and water!
