I lived just round the corner from Union Street for several years - and my office was a few hundred yards from here; I don't much like towns, but really liked Ryde; it's gone down hill a bit since I left (well, naturally...) but it had a wonderful community atmosphere and it bustled: and you've caught this in your painting. Going down the hill is an awful lot easier than climbing back up again.... you've made me VERY nostalgic for the place.

Thank you for such a swift comment!. The painting will be on display with others showing Bembridge etc at The Island Art Society Exhibition at Ryde School from 15th December for a week. John

Good luck with the exhibition, John - it's strangely difficult to get from here to Ryde, but I shall do my best.

Great atmosphere here. We were there early this year and walked down it.As Robert says , very hard to walk back up!

what a perfect scene you have captured here, it is perfect :-)

Thank you all for your kind remarks. The Ryde Scene is part of my venture of trying landscapes with Pastel on Erste paper (glass paper ?), from Alan Miller in Swindon. It eats pastel but this produces a very satisfying result. I commonly use pastel on Canson paper for swift light touch portraits each Monday evening at my local Art Society meetings. Oils take me much longer and sometimes the result is too laboured.

I saw this picture at the Bembridge art show and was so impressed that I bought it. I am delighted with it , it has so much life and shows one of my favourite views. Thank you so much for bringing so much life into my home.

Thank you for buying it Pat! I have only just seen your comment as I have been ill for a while. I hope to do more pastels like this for future exhibitions as scenes are more suitable than Portraits!
