John Hewison

Biography

I have had a lifelong interest in all the visual arts from my schooldays to the present. A career in engineering took me from the banks of the river Tyne in Wallsend to the far corners of the world firstly in the Merchant Navy and latterly in Oil exploration. I was fortunate enough to retire comfortably at fifty, which enabled me to follow my first love of drawing and painting. Consequently I completed an A Level in Fine Art, followed by a Two Year Foundation Course in Visual Arts which was really stimulating and finally a Fine Arts BA at Northumbria University, which was not so stimulating, when it could have been so much more. I now paint for pleasure - I especially like portrait work whether people or animals. I will often do copies of anything for friends and family which gives me a kick. As can be seen from my gallery work I have an eclectic taste in subject deriving ideas, style or taste from a broad and diverse range of sources. Being new to this site - I am most impressed with the scope and standard of the work displayed and even more surprised with the really nice responses to the work I have displayed to date.
