Yes you have Jane, but with that backlight the contrasts would have been greater in tree and rocks and would enhance your smashing painting even more.

Thank you Derek for your comment. I found your comment very relevant as this was a problem area for me. I originally had the rocks and tree trunk darker but found the contract was too harsh. When looking at this scene in situation I found that the shimmering light actually blinded and seemed to bleached out patches of the surrounding areas thus creating a dappled appearance. I might have another look at this and made some changes.

Oil on board 30cm x 40cm. This is where I walk my dog to catch the last of the sun before itdisappears behind the Elounda mountains. This tree silluetted by the shimmering sea has fascinated me for years. I hope I have caught something of the magic of this place...
