Rear gunner

Rear gunner

This is a case of few lines drawn speaking volumes James, the man in the wheelchair in the gun turret of a plane from the war years, sends a message to us all about remembering, it is extremely well drawn as well

James, this is an excellent drawing all round. The medium used fits. His face speaks volumes.

Behind this incongruous image is a story. As I pushed him back to his ward from the hospital chapel he said. " I was rear gunner in the War: I'm more terrified of now being in a wheelchair than ever I was in the raids". I had drawn the image for a weekly reflection page, as an illustration of a theme. I had intended it as rough sketch prior to ink drawing, but think it works better as 2B graphite, A4 paper. The turret comes from a photo, the man evolved from memories.
