I don't think the arch and the people are in conflict; they work well together, and I was drawn to this one - you've got the crumbling yet massively strong feeling for old stonework. If you sit too close to this and peer at it, your eye does get drawn between the figures and the shadow of the arch, but - don't! Stand back, and it works.

Lovely work. I agree that they work together and keep your eye going round the picture.

Great use of tone and superb rendition of texture.
