How do you manage to keep producing such images - I have to work so hard at them - and that touch of red is quite something.

Well, when you hang around all day thinking what to draw or paint next it works :-) I try to catch that sudden flash of inspiration that sometimes gives amazing insights. Once you catch it, it gets easy. As for the red, I "stole" this idea from the comic books and the way they color them.
