I know what you mean - you become totally absorbed while painting, don't you. I love the contrast of the detail of the flower with the colour with the more abstract and colourful background.

Heather I am in the same boat, I need to use tonal effect more in my work. I love the way you have made the leaves almost transparent and the translucent background enhances the detail of the subject flower. Lovely work.

Very sorry to hear about your illness - painting is a great release, isn't it. This is such an accomplished and attractive painting. I do like the contrast of the defined flower head and the loose and expressive background.
