Yes, grief can cause frozen emotion and drawing a self portrait while experiencing the mourning phase is pretty hard , although can be therapeutic as one captures the realistic state of being. Well done for attempting this portrait while mourning, sending sympathy and condolences at this time.

The eyes and mouth convey the emotion rather well indeed. As a complete aside, this portrait reminds me of a British politician, my former MP, now Lord MacKinlay of Richborough. I know POL isn't keen on external links so Google Craig MacKinlay and look at the images.

You have conveyed emotion Holger, and this particular emotion would have been difficult I think.

Your emotion is very well conveyed indeed - the eyes speak volumes as does the set of the mouth. I wish you well.

The mouth speaks volumes Regloh. I hope your grief doesn’t last too long.

I think you have captured the emotion very well here

Thank you all for your mindful words.

I agree with all the comments below regarding the portrait. Sending sympathy and condolences at this time of grief!

Trial of an honest selfportrait. I hoped to somehow comprehend the emotion. Graphite Pencil A4
