It's a long time since I've sone a portrait so can't give advice but the expression on both the boy and the rabbit's face is just so lovable such an enjoyable cuddle

This works Dave because its a simple clever idea. Because we survive by reading faces any they always have to be based on correct angles and relationships of one part of the face to another. Select a shape say eye width... nose length and use that as a unit of measurement. All other shapes relate to that size, and angles, to that eye ... nose position. Observe very carefully and don't make anything up until your sure you can get away with it. :-)

I understand what Neil is saying. However, this painting has an appealing naivity to it. It is a charming subject and the fact that the face does not exactly follow the accepted rules of proportions is sort of it's charm. There is a real depth of emotion in the boy's eyes which are really well depicted and as they say - the eyes tell the story.

What a lovely painting. It is so good just as it is.
