Technically clever and well composed but spoiled, in my opinion, by the brass oil lamp stand....it's a real distraction and ruins the impact of the figure.

As the painting has a biblical reference the oil lamp tells the story. Would it still be significant enough if it was less prominent?

Stunning painting ,beautiful technique as always,imo Roger may have a point, but whether the painting has more meaning with it in I'm not to sure. Still a wonderful painting though.

I think the lamp is no distraction at all and balances the superb way you have depicted the soft folds of the material and the skill you have with the flesh tones.
